The property retains its orignal features of chestnut beamed ceilings and wooden floors, and is furnished in a traditional style.
Every room is double aspect with wonderful views from each side. The landing in particular boasts large french windows which look out onto the ancient fortress.

Outside, the garden has a patio area which is perfect for eating al fresco under the vines, and the fig tree. Eating outside in the evening is particularly wonderful with the fortress lit up, and the sensation that the stars are just an arm stretch away!

The fortress itself is a perfect place for secluded picnics, and the village with its tiny population of around 50 at most boasts a bar/shop for basic provisions including fresh bread daily. The owners will prepare cold food if required (for those all important picnics!) and pizzas are prepared every Saturday and Sunday evening.

The views from the village are magnificent, and the only sound to be heard is the ringing of the church bells, and in the distance, the sound of water from a nearby stream.

Ground floor

• Kitchen - fitted and equipped with w/machine, modern oven & hob, microwave, fridge freezer, and dishwasher. Large period dining table.

Upstairs - landing, with table and chairs for enjoying afternoon tea with fantastic views of the fortress.

• Main bedroom - double bed, beamed ceilings.
• Second bedroom - twin beds, beamed ceilings.
• Bathroom - small bathroom, with shower cubicle, sink, WC and bidet.
• All rooms have wonderful and individual views - choose from the fortress, the mountains, hilltop villages, the valley, the roof tops, or the church!

Outside

• Garden - including patio with wooden pergolashaded by vines for dining al fresco.
• Perfect place for dining at night, with the fortress lit up, and blankets of stars! BBQ provided.

Verrucole is Situated 1 hour North of Lucca, and 20 minutes North of Castelnuovo.
The village consists of a small number of houses, a church, water fountain, and a bar/shop/pizzeria.

The village is situated a 10 minute drive from Piazza Al Serchio which has supermakets, restaurants, and a large outdoor swimming pool for when swimming in the river does not appeal! There is also a main line train station for those days when you wish to leave the car behind to explore.

Just a 20 minute drive is the market town of Castelnuovo famous for its Thursday morning markets, and the mediaeval town of Barga is just 30 minutes away. Pisa is an hour and 20 min drive, Florence 2 hrs, and the breathtaking medieaval walled city of Lucca just under an hours drive.

All in all a perfect mix of rural retreat, with a mere 10-minute drive taking you up into the mountains, and the Natural Park of Orecchiella for wonderful walking, unusual wildlife and rare fauna; bocce and cheese throwing, but also a good base for exploring the towns of the area, and close to supermarkets, train station and swimming pool.
