Lucca - is an hour or so, Pisa 90 mins, Florence 1 hr 40 mins: Barga 25 mins....The National Parks of the Garfagnana, and the local ancient fortress (great for picnics!) are only a short drive away and there are numerous hilltop villages to visit very locally....
