Sleeping 12 in total, this is a wonderful peaceful retreat, yet within walking distance of a couple of restaurants and just a 20 minute drive in either direction to two market towns, with other villages and restaurants on the way...
Ideal for groups of adults looking for a relaxing break, and perfect if you like walking as the properties are close to the tracks leading up to the Apuane peaks. This really is a picture post card location, with complete privacy at the pool.
Both properties are made out of traditional stone, creating a romantic olde worlde feel, and ensuring the houses stay beautifully cool for sleeping.
Main Villa:
This character farmhouse has been renovated with love and care, and is furnished with a mixture of new and antique furniture. Windows are chestnut, with internal shutters adding to the Tuscan feel of this property which boasts wonderous views...
Ground floor:
Well equipped country style Tuscan kitchen/breakfast room, leading to a very spacious living/diner, with comfy seating, fireplace and dining table for up to 12.
Also on this floor is a utility room with washing machine.
Ground floor shower room with WC, shower and washbasin.
A staircase from the living room leads to a very spacious landing with a sofabed.
From the landing there are:
- 2 twin bedroooms
- 2 double bedrooms, one of them with ensuite shower room, with shower, wash basin, WC and bidet and private balcony with stunning view - complete romance!
- Family bathroom with telephone style shower mixer tap.
Cottage:
This renovated stone cottage is ideal for anyone wishing to have privacy from the rest of the group
Enter the cottage via a covered loggia area, ideal for dining al fresco or relaxing in the shade whilst drinking in the stunning vista.
The cottage boasts a living room with fireplace and sofa, along with a kitchen.
There is a steep narrow wooden staircase leading to:
- Twin room
- Double room
- Shower room, with shower, WC, handbasin and bidet
Outside:
- Extensive land leading to open fields and stunning mountain views.
- 2 covered pergolas for al fresco relaxing and dining, with that at the main house providing enough room for all guests to dine together.
- Barbeque.
- Private pool - total privacy at the pool area with a 9M x 5M pool overlooking the mountains - a perfect place to forget the world.
NB - this property is not suitable for very small children or
elderly/infirm due to terraced and uneven nature of land. It is
also unsuitable for the elderly or infirm.
The owner lives on site but fully respects privacy of guests and the pool area has been designed to ensure guests are not overlooked at all.
A little about the area:
Situated in the heart of the Garfagnana, in the depths of the countryside, with mountain views, but only a 10 minute walk from the closest village and two restaurants, this property situated underneath a mediaeval church and bell tower (which no longer rings) offers a rural idyll, yet is within easy distance of the fully walled, Mediaeval City of Lucca,1 hour; Pisa 90 mins; Florence 1 hr 40 mins and the wonderful medieaval town of Barga 30 minutes
The local town of Gallicano is less than a 20 minute drive, and
here one can find a train station for easy exploring, shops, bars,
restaurants, weekly market and a hypermarket.
The market town of Castelnuovo with its famous Thursday morning
market, and various bars and restaurants is only a 20 minute drive
too.
The real beauty of this area however is the stunning scenery and
hundreds of beautiful hilltop villages to explore…..
Perfect for walkers, this property is within walking distance of
the most famous Mountain Peak in the area - Pania della Croce.
Overall, a perfect base for exploring the Garfagnana, the walks of the Apuane mountains, and also other Tuscany delights.

We spent a wonderful week in this lovely place (9 people aged
from 8 to 50). It's far from everything, but very nice and
relaxing, the pool was really appreciated by everyone. The main
house and cottage are both well equiped and our host was very
friendly and knowledgeable on the region and the places to
visit.

Perfect place to relax with friends or family
The main house and the cottage have everything you need for a
comfortable holiday. The swimming pool is the perfect place to
relax. The place has almost total privacy but is just 300 meters
from the village. The views to surrounding mountains and the valley
are spectacular. 15 min away in Galicano is the huge Conad Super
Store where you will find everything you need. The owner Giancarlo
is very friendly and helpful. The only restaurant in the village
'Il Totto' has good food for a reasonable prize. We really liked to
stay there. We had a beautiful holiday.

Splendid hosting, spectacular view, privacy, a great place to
relax.

It's a long drive up winding hills, but once you arrive in
Sassi, you can forget about all your worries, sit back and relax.
The main farmhouse and the cottage are both well-equipped with
everything you need for a comfortable stay. The pool was a godsend
on especially hot days, especially for the children, who spent
hours playing Marco Polo and other water games well into the
evening. Our host was extremely helpful and was a walking
encyclopedia of information about the surrounding areas, too. We
were a party of eleven, ages 8 to 73. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed
their stay and took away some wonderful memories. Thank you to GT
for everything!

With our family we have spent 2 wonderful weeks in this house. It is located just outside the village with a lot of space and privacy. We have done some beautiful hiking tours right from the house and the beautiful cities Lucca, Florence and Pisa are only a 1 hour drive.
