Fantastically beautiful house in the heart of the Garfagnana in
Tuscany. We received such a warm welcome from Silvio (owner) and
Lolita (English-speaking hostess). Very hospitable and available
for questions throughout our stay. A list had been prepared of the
festivals during our stay and of recommended restaurants in
surrounding villages/towns. The house is spacious, with beautiful,
large bedrooms and 2 lovely bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen,
and a large dining table. Universal adapters are also available.
The swimming pool and jacuzzi are beautifully clean and are checked
early every morning. Sun loungers and a parasol are provided. The
only minor downside is that the showers in the house heat up a bit
too slowly, or cool down just a little too quickly once they are
hot. The surroundings are truly fantastically beautiful. Situated
between the mountain ranges of the Apuan Alps and the Northern
Apennines, around the Serchio river, it is a beautiful wooded area
with idyllic, authentic villages. The house is located on a street
off one of the main roads on the edge of the Apuan Alps.
Castelnuovo di Garfagnana is one of the region's 'capitals', a
fifteen-minute drive away, where you can find supermarkets and
pharmacies, among other things. The other is Barga, half an hour
away. Larger cities are a 1-hour (Lucca) to 2-hour (Florence) drive
away. Due to the location, we find it less suitable for a long stay
with (our) teenagers. You can't just stroll into a village, and you
are truly on your own. But for a holiday with friends or something
similar, we wouldn't hesitate.
